I think it's clear that I have to look for a new job. I'm sitting here making tears of frustration (not quite crying) because I have to tell a team member that I have to clear with the boss whether she has to do manual shit work, or if I can get IT to do the work programatically.

Can anyone recommend a good podiatrist? My Neuroma is acting up. I'd love to be able to see an acupuncturist for this, but my insurance requires a docs recommendation before I can pursue "alternative therapies".

If we had an earthquake of the same magnitude as the one in Japan, we'd be dead. In huge numbers. In CA our building codes are not for eight pointers. And if it hit anywhere else in thhe US... gods forbid. So, yeah...that's what is occupying my brain this morning.

Well, things mostly checked out. They gave me an EKG 'cause I'm over 40 and apparently my heart looks great. So that's good. However, for the first time ever my bloodwork was not so good. I have elevated "bad" cholesterol. My "good" cholesterol is also higher than average. (That's apparently ok.)

I guess I shouldn't be surprised. I only walk the dog 4 blocks in the morning. When it got cold this winter I had a lot of atole, which I made with whole milk and heavy cream. Patch discovered butter and cooks everything in butter or bacon fat. At some point I started eating two eggs in one sitting. I'm pretty sure I used to only eat one. I've also gained 30 lbs over the last 5 years, so that doesn't thrill me.

Obviously I'm making some changes in the way I eat and trying to get some more excercise. I'm trying to drink more water (as always). I'm eating an apple and a citrus fruit each day. I'm insisting Patch cook with olive oil. (I know he's going to get cranky and fed up.) I'm eating a small handful of walnuts daily. I'm planning on upping my anti-oxidant intake. As soon as it's light outside when I get home from work, the dog, Patch and I are going for extended evening walks. I also want to extend my morning walk, to make sure I'm getting a mile a day.

Of course I have to combat all the temptation. I mean, I already live without chocolate and coffee, how much sacrifice is required?! This morning I was a good girl and at my O's with lowfat milk. Then I get to the office where they have cinnamon rolls. So I had half a cinnamon roll and a bunch of blueberries (high in anti-oxidants = good for me) and a giant glass of water. Making these changes is going to be hard, especially with a partner who's not onboard.

The doc wants me back in 6 months. We'll see then how this project has progressed.

There is so much I want to do.

I just finished a baby blanket for Cat and Bryn. Any day now I'm going to finish my fingerless gloves. I'm still working on Patch's fucking blanket.

I really want to get started on deconstructing my grandmother's shawl. I've got some really great ideas on things I can do with when making it, to make it "contemporary" and give it my own twist. This is a huge project that has to run parallel to everything else. I need to find a source for yards ans yards of embroidery floss.

I want to make one in red with black as the accent color. I want to do another for me in a peacock varigated with either blue or green as the accent color. My grandmother always made hers one color, baby blue, cick yellow or white. There are so many great yarns availabe these days I can really have fun with it. I'd kind of like to make these a signature piece to be given to my cousins when they graduate. Of course I have to find something for the boys so they don’t feel left out.

I have three "quick" projects I need to do. Bryn wants an ear flap hat for the baby. I already have a pattern, but need to buy yarn. It's pretty much something I can whip out in a weekend. I also need to make baby gifts for my cousin and her 18 year old step daughter. Both are pregnant. I'm thinking maybe a toy or stuffed animal. My cousin is having a girl so I'm tempted to make a cute dress or hat. A dress is not so quick, so maybe not.

Plus there's all the pretties I want to make for myself. I've got so much on my wishlist, but I think a new cardigan has to come first.

Last night we had a lovely dinner with the in-laws. It's the first time we've been fed at their place whedn it wasn't a huge family occasion. They've stopped going out to restaurants all the time and have started eating at home. I enjoyed that a lot. My MIL is an excellent cook.

Low Points: She used the phrase "Indian giver" a couple of times. Since she was upset I didn't think trying to educate her on her language choices would be beneficial.

Also she made some comment about how she didn't get sprinkles on the cupcakes she bought for dessert because she didn't know if I liked them. When I told her that I do in fact, like sprinkles she responed with "well you're so oicky about chocolate and all that other stuff...". Um, yeah. All that other stuff? Seriously WTF? This woman makes her son entirely seperate mdals because he won't eat most of what she serves. I am not picky. I eat what I'm served.

High points: She gave me all of her leftover yarn. I have a grocery bag full of half skeins of mostly expensive wool yarns in random colors.

After dinner we sat and did needlework while Patch and his dad played Wii Sports. That was nice.

Question for the masses. I'm finally finishing Patch's fucking blanket. I have a gift I need to finish for an upcoming event, and then after that there are a million things I want to do for me. I will also be working on patterning my grandmother's shawl but that's a long term project.

I have never actually made anything for me and it's about time I reap the rewards of my work. :-)

So what should I work on?

Hat
Socks
Sweater
Fingerless Gloves

Because there are still people in the world who despair and think they are alone. Because people think I’ve been saved, cured or finally met the right man. Because it is not “just a phase”. Because I am married to a man. Because I can pass. I am coming out … again.

I am Queer. By queer, I mean I am someone who falls in love with people regardless of their gender. I do not limit myself in the binary. Love is love, is love. The only choice that exists is whether or not to be happy and in love or miserable and alone. I’ve found happy and in love to be the better choice.

When I started college I was a typical boy-crazy young woman. At some point I met a woman who made my heart race, my hands tremble and my thoughts impure. She was (and still is) flirty, charming and magnetic. Throughout the next ten plus years I had girlfriends and lovers, joy and heartbreak. Although my interest in men never changed, I identified as lesbian. It was just easier and required less explanation.

Eventually I started to date more men and even had a boyfriend or two. My interest in women never changed, but I realized that identifying as a lesbian was disingenuous and required more explanation, rather than less.

Now I identify as queer and I stand before you out and proud. A Queer woman married to a man.

ETA: I just posted this to my FB. I'm nervous about it. It took me a while to strike the right balance of not too preachy and not too angry. I worked really hard to keep it positive. I have to admit I'm a little scared that someone in my family (who thought I was all better now) is going to freak at me. Not that I can't handle that fight, it's just I don't want to have to.

I thought this was ablsolutely fascinating. Oddly enough, I kind of already knew the racial make-up of LA, but it's still interesting to see it on paper.

Sorry, unable to embed pic. Click to see.

ETA: I would love to see this updated with 2010 data. I also think it would be fascinating to pick one city and enter the data from every census and then watch how the data morphs over the years. I wanted to comment and tell the guy this, unfortunately I'd have to join Flicker to do so and i just don't feel like joining something I'm not going to use.

"We are in need of a dog sitter (female dogs do not take to males), January 5th through January 12th or 13th. We have two medium sized older mixed terriors. They are really good dogs and fun to be around, but very spoiled and need someone who can stay at our house, and is around most of the time. They also need to be walked twice a day. If you are interested, please contact me as soon as possible as we need to make our travel plans."

Ok, he's not so much a puppy. He's two years old. We don't have a name for him and we can't pick him up until after his boy part removal. But we signed paperwork today and he's mine!

I'm used to working with choke chains. I know those are frowned upon these days, so what do you recommend? He definitely needs leash training, he's a puller.

He's medium sized and muscular. A lab mix. And just a sweet mellow lover... he's such a doll. He'll be work, but I'm ok with that. I'll have to add moring walk and training to my schedule. But I get a sweet fuzzy in return. I'm so ok with that. :-)
